A rare and unusual sterling silver tea and coffee set of art deco design. The four pieces were hallmarked in England between 1935 and 1937, and the squat round form is complemented on each piece by four angular feet, made of silver on the sugar bowl and cream jug; and of a black, wood effect composition on the teapot and coffee pot, with the handles made of the same material.
The four-piece set is a marvellous and impressive example of 1930s cutting edge design, which would not be out of place in a showcase of a museum collection although it would be better used for its original purpose of serving afternoon tea, or indeed coffee, in the home of a discerning owner.
