Chinese Export Silver Goblet
Status: FOR SALE
A fabulous Chinese Goblet with spectacular figural battle-scenes depicting tales of the Three Kingdoms.
The goblet stands on a round base with beaded border and a coiled dragon reaches up the stem to meet a second dragon. There is a vacant shield-shaped cartouche.
Marked with '冯朝记’ (FengZhaoJi), a maker's mark, and an unknown retailer mark of CH . It is possible, due to the style of the goblet, that CH could be an incorrect spelling of HC, for Hung Chong, '鸿昌', who worked in Shanghai from around 1870-1949, and also had an earlier store in Canton from around 1860 when this goblet was likely to have been made. Hung Chong was one of the earliest Cantonese silver retailers in Shanghai, and the longest in business.
