Chinese Export Silver Mug, circa 1840, of double-skin construction and decorated with grape and vine against a matte background, a small oval cartouche, and grape branch handle.
The mug has four pseudo-hallmarks including the retailer's mark KHC, for KHE CHEONG or KHE CHOUNG. KHC located in Canton, on both Old China Street and Club Street from 1830s to the 1870s. Pseudo-hallmarks were used on some Chinese silver objects for around thirty years, with the latest piece that we've identified being dated 1856.
