Japanese Silver Bowl with Chrysanthemum

Status: FOR SALE
Japanese Silver Bowl from the Meiji period, of hemispherical form with scalloped rim upon a round foot. The exterior is profusely embossed in chrysanthemum pattern against a matte background. This beautiful large bowl is of double-skin construction, but rather than having a simple plain interior, it has flutes rising up to the patterned rim, giving it a dramatic and sophisticated appearance both inside and out. Marked underneath with the maker’s mark of Watanabe Silversmith in seal form ( 渡边造 ) who were based in Yokohama, and the jungin mark, the Japanese symbol for "fine silver", meaning it has a silver content of sterling or above.
