Chinese Export Silver Biscuit Box

Chinese Export Silver Biscuit Box, circa 1895, with British import marks for Glasgow 1902, and a later blue-glass liner. The box is pierced with two pairs of opposing dragons, and the lid is pierced with three dragons and a band of prunus and surmounted by a fluted finial atop a roundel of pierced acanthus. Retailed by Wang Hing, and made by the Qiu Workshop, Qiu Ji (求记). The Scottish firm of George Edward & Sons was one of the few UK companies that stocked Chinese and Japanese silver, and was run by the founder's sons, David and George. In 1901 the firm was associated with the Japanese Department at the International Exhibition in Glasgow.
