A Chinese Export Silver Tea Caddy chased and embossed all over with chrysanthemum, circa 1890.
The jar was retailed by HC (Hung Chong). Hung Chong was located in Shanghai and Canton, and was one of the first and longest-lasting Cantonese western style silver retailers in Shanghai. There were many silversmiths associated with the firm of Hung Chong and the silversmith of this piece is 阜隆 (Fu Long).
Chrysanthemum of this depth and detail is more often found on items originating in Japan so to find a Chinese caddy such as this is very interesting and exciting.
