A Chinese Export Silver Mug, c1865, with dragon handle and decorated with figures among buildings and foliage. The mug has a vacant shield-shape cartouche.
Marked with LC, for Leeching, 利升 (LiSheng), a large silver retailer working from 1846 to 1890 in Canton and then later, in Hong Kong. Leeching produced many fine items of silver and specialised in producing mugs, which are lovely examples of the skill and craftsmanship present in the best Chinese silver, and widely collected for that reason.
