Chinese Export Silver Bowl circa 1890, pierced with wonderfully detailed Two Dragons Playing with Pearl decoration and on a plain collet foot.
The decoration on the bowl is very striking and effective as it is complemented with the addition of a blue glass liner of later manufacture. The pearl shaped cartouche has the engraved inscription "Presented to Mr V. Marsot * Manger [sic] Banque De L'Indo-Chine * From Chinese Merchants". The maker's mark is “尧階” (Yao Jie) and it appears underneath the base as well as the side of the collet foot.
Victor Marsot was the Director of the Banque D L'Indochine in Hanoi, arriving there in 1913.
