A charming and beautifully made set of 4 Antique Sterling Silver Sauce Tureens, made by the silversmith John Robins, and hallmarked in London 1789.
Each tureen has a detachable lid, and all eight separate pieces, 4 tureens and 4 covers, are original and hallmarked accordingly.
The elegant oval shape is complemented by lovely curved handles, and each cover has an urn-shaped finial which was a feature used in this period and often described as in the Adams style.
The interior of each tureen has traces of the original gilding which, over time, has faded to a delightful soft, lemon colour.
The tureens would be a perfect addition to any period dining table or as a treat for a refined collector of late 18th century silver.
