Chinese Export Silver Bowl, of hexafoil form with applied decoration depicting various plants and birds, showing chrysanthemum and peacock, chrysanthemum only, magpie and plum blossom, gourd and rooster, iris and egret, and bamboo and birds.
The retailer's mark is Luen Wo (联和). From the 1870s to the 1920s, Luen Wo was the largest silver retailer in Shanghai, then the most prosperous city in the Far East. This bowl dates from around 1885 and the maker is 协昌 (Xie Chang).
