A Chinese export silver goblet with prunus decoration on a matte background, and the base and stem formed as prunus tree branch root. The body has a single round cartouche engraved "SHANGHAI LIGHT HORSE, POINT TO POINT, WON BY TROOPER FORBES, Feby. 1897".
It was retailed by the firm of Luen Wo, '联和' in 1897 or possibly a little earlier. Luen Wo was a retailer based in Canton from around 1860, and later in Shanghai from 1870 to 1920. It was one of the biggest and earliest of the Cantonese silver retailers in Shanghai. The silversmith's mark is '良生' (Liang Sheng).
